National Advisory Board Meeting

The first formal meeting of the Health Minister"s new National Advisory Board will take place on Monday, 29 June at 11am in Conference Room 24, Ty Hywel, Cardiff Bay. Members of the public are invited to attend the meetings, but due to limited seating, places will be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis. The agenda and board papers for the meetings will be published in advance on the Welsh Assembly Government website with minutes of the meetings published shortly after. The National Advisory Board was established as part of the reforms to the NHS structure in Wales and will provide independent advice to the Health Minister to help inform her decisions on setting priorities for the NHS. In addition to the Minister, Deputy Minister for Social Services, Gwenda Thomas, NHS Chief Executive Paul Williams, Chief Medical Officer Dr Tony Jewell, and the Director of Social Services, Graham Williams, the board will include members with experience in local government, the trade union and third sector and two independent members. Edwina Hart said: "The National Advisory Board will help me formulate policies for the NHS in Wales and support me as the NHS structure is reformed. "I believe that the new simpler NHS structure will help improve care for patients by removing artificial boundaries, provide more career opportunities for staff and free up more money for frontline services. "By holding the National Advisory Board meetings in public, wherever possible, and publishing papers and decisions, people will have a greater understanding for the decision-making process which I believe will give them more confidence in the NHS. "I would encourage members of the public to read the documents and come along to the meetings. I hope to hold these meetings at least every three months and intend to hold them in different parts of Wales to make it easier for people in all parts of Wales to attend." Notes The members of the National Advisory Board are: - Chair - Minister for Health and Social Services; - Deputy Minister for Social Services - to be Vice-Chair in the Minister"s absence; - Chief Executive, NHS Wales; - Welsh Assembly Government Chief Medical Officer; - Welsh Assembly Government Director of Social Services. - Cllr Meryl Gravell - Local Government; - Tina Donnelly, Director of RCN Wales - Trade Union / Representative Bodies; - Catriona Williams, Chief Executive of the Children in Wales - Third Sector; - Enid Rowlands - Independent; and, - Melville Evans - Independent.
